Successful Guest Lecture on Gender Discrimination in Sri Lankan Society

On the 19th of August 2022, Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe delivered an insightful and impactful guest lecture on the topic “Gender Discrimination in Sri Lankan Society; Cultural Perspective.” The lecture was conducted as part of the academic curriculum.

Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe, a distinguished Senior Lecturer (Grade I) in Sociology and Criminology at the Department of Sociology, University of Kelaniya, shared her extensive knowledge and expertise on gender discrimination and its cultural implications in Sri Lankan society. She is also a Council member of the National Institute of Social Development (2022) and the Foundation for Innovative Social Development (2024), and a Committee member of women’s peace and security in the Ministry of Women and Children (2023).

Her lecture provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the cultural factors contributing to gender discrimination in Sri Lanka, highlighting the importance of addressing these issues to promote gender equality and social justice.

This guest lecture was a valuable addition to the academic program, significantly enhancing students’ awareness and understanding of gender-related issues in society. The faculty appreciates Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe’s contribution and looks forward to more such enriching sessions in the future.
