Message From the Dean
The Faculty of Criminal Justice at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was established in 2021 and is proud to be the first faculty within Sri Lanka’s higher education system—including both state and private universities—to offer a comprehensive range of degree programs in the field of criminal justice. This young faculty comprises two academic departments: the Department of Criminology and the Department of Police Science. Our academic offerings span from Bachelor’s degrees to Doctoral programs.
As of 2024, the Faculty of Criminal Justice has successfully enrolled three intakes: Intake 39, Intake 40, and Intake 41. These cohorts are currently studying and progressing through their respective programs. Presently, the faculty is running two main degree programs:
The BSc in Police Science degree programme is designed to meet the academic knowledge cum advanced training requirements specific to the police whilst the BSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree programme are designed to provide the academic knowledge for the employees in institutions directly related to the criminal justice system and individuals who are interested in enhancing their knowledge in criminal justice.
As the Acting Dean, I warmly invite all who are eager to enhance their knowledge in criminal justice and advance their professional careers to join us.
Mr. WS Wijesinghe
Acting Dean
