c) Vulnerability Management Strategies in Sri Lanka.
(a) Strategies related to the school community
To establish proper safety for vulnerable female groups, the main
strategies are prepared by the Police Children & Women Bureau, which is
affiliated with the police department in Sri Lanka. To comply with the
service, every police station comprises women's and children's desks to
provide safety throughout the island. The primary strategy that the police
department practises is conducting awareness programmes, including
street drama, to convey crucial messages on crime prevention.
Furthermore, the public relationship between the police and the
community has contributed to building a solid bond to ensure the public's
safety. This rapport has contributed to identifying the risk factors around
the school community. Female police officers are appointed to engage in
peak-hour duties in the morning and afternoon, mainly to provide safety
for school children. These officers may appear as civil officials for
surveillance purposes. Moreover, the Sri Lanka Police provides "traffic
warden training" to certify further protection for vulnerable groups
around the schools.
(b) Strategies related to detainees in police custody
The detention and the arrest have become one of the most controversial,
complex interactions undertaken by the Police Department. Police
custody is also known as detention, where the police detain a person for
a particular time. When a female suspect is arrested, police officers at the
