members especially their children or other dependants.
The National Child Protection Police Unit and the Department of
Probation should carry out spot checks on institutionalized children and
make surprise visits to these institutions and communicate with the
children and detect instances of violations of child rights and crime
against children. The Corporate Sector too has a role to play. Businesses
can have the child helpline number displayed on prominent, eye-catching
bill boards stationed at prime locations and create awareness among the
public to alert the authorities if they witness any of the child rights
violations they have listed in simple language on the hoarding. School

Stationery and text books too should carry similar Human Rights
education messages in the form of colourful cartoons. A popular mascot
could be used and a student ambassador could be trained to carry the
message to rural schools. This could pave the way to combat social evils
such as cyber bullying and the use of narcotics among school children.
The sixth narrative was related by Lucille who was a foreigner from a
European Country who came to Sri Lanka as a tourist. She loved the
country and started visiting the island many times. A man much younger
to her befriended her. They started courting and he proposed her. They
married and started putting up their own marital home. She spent a huge
